November: Nurture Something Living
Inspired by Tulsi Vivah
Growth can be easy to miss when you’re looking every day. Then, suddenly, there’s a new leaf.
This November, inspired by Tulsi Vivah, let’s practice the kind of care that helps things grow: steady attention, a little patience, and gratitude for small changes.
learn & recite
ॐ तुलस्यै विद्महे
विष्णुप्रियायै धीमहि ।
तन्नो वृन्दा प्रचोदयात् ॥
Om tulasyai vidmahe,
Vishnupriyayai dhimahi,
Tanno Vrinda prachodayat.
“May we know Tulsi; we meditate on her, beloved of Vishnu. May Vrinda inspire our understanding.”
This traditional Tulsi Gayatri mantra honors Tulsi, also known as Vrinda. Recite it during a quiet moment of tending a plant, letting care become an opportunity for devotion.
your affirmation
“I nurture what matters with patience and care.”
Say it after the mantra, and bring something you cherish to mind.
try this: a month of tending
Choose a Tulsi plant—or another plant you already have—and spend a few minutes getting to know what it needs.
Find out how much light and water suit it. Check its soil, notice its leaves, and water when needed. Daily attention doesn’t have to mean daily watering.
As you tend it, ask: “What else in my life would benefit from regular care?” Choose one small habit to nurture alongside your plant: checking in with a loved one, making time for prayer, or returning to something you enjoy.
Trying this as a family? Take turns checking the plant and noticing changes. Children can photograph or draw a new leaf. Naming the plant is optional, though it may become inevitable.
a little care, every day
Recite the mantra, repeat your affirmation, and ask:
“What needs my attention today?”
Offer one small act of care—to your plant and to the habit you’ve chosen.
At the end of the month, reflect: “What changed when I kept showing up?”
Some growth arrives quietly. Give yourself time to notice it.
