February: Become a Beginner

Inspired by Vasant Panchami

When was the last time you tried something for the very first time?

This February, make a little room for curiosity. Inspired by Vasant Panchami and Saraswati, let’s celebrate learning—with all the questions, wobbly first attempts, and delightful discoveries that come with it.

learn & recite

विद्यारम्भं करिष्यामि सिद्धिर्भवतु मे सदा ।
Vidyarambham karishyami, siddhir bhavatu me sada.

“I am beginning my learning; may my efforts always meet with success.”

This line from a traditional Saraswati prayer is a lovely way to begin something new. Recite it before learning or creating—and remember that success can be as simple as discovering something you didn’t know yesterday.

your affirmation

“I welcome new ideas and give myself room to learn.”

When “I can’t do this” sneaks in, try adding one small word: yet.

try this: become a beginner

Choose something you’re curious about and give it ten minutes. Learn a few words in a new language, draw without erasing, try a simple rhythm, or explore a question you’ve never thought to ask.

Trying this as a family? Let everyone teach something they know. Children make excellent teachers—particularly when the subject is dinosaurs.

a little curiosity, every day

Recite the Sanskrit, repeat your affirmation, and ask:

“What might I discover if I give this a try?”

Spend a few minutes exploring. At the end of the month, share your favorite discovery. No polished performance required.

Though, of course, the fridge is accepting masterpieces.

how did this month’s reflection feel for you?

We’d love to hear what you tried, what surprised you, or what you’re still figuring out. Whether it sparked a quiet moment or a lively family conversation, your experience is welcome here.

A few lines, a little story, or a question—we’re listening.
